Clients for the services of IMID may present from any circumstance and/or location, though it is the experience of the Director, that direct communication is more effective, that regular updates and meetings are necessary to become fully immersed in a clients project with what s/he intends and/or does not intend. While this is possible for paid projects, much of the Service work is dedicated to the health and vitality of our community so it is not always possible to be focused on any individual problem.
Translating the benefits of our work to the next generation by normal reproductive means, and the characteristics sought out by the wealthy few in a position to drive the industry in such a way as to avoid creating an endless need to write and rewrite genetic information for ourselves and others is as important as avoiding the treatment of human beings as either products or commodities. That is, we hope to provide an evolutionary path, rather than an isolated incident of correction or improvement. [i]
The most sincere pursuit of radical solutions will likely be found within the community of those facing terminal illness along with loved ones, or their families seeking solutions out of desperation. There are among those in hospice many who would survive with a focus on useful applications of genetic engineering rather than the exploitation of the technology by industries such as pharmaceutical corporations serving themselves.
If you've picked up and used the tools I refer to in the column Epigenesis (with summary here), and seen some examples of the kinds of practical results to expect from these disciplines, you have a better understanding of how difficult it is to be motivated by want, and/or feelings of inadequacy. I've discussed these concerns at Transpositions and Retrospectives, and one of my primary objectives is to avoid the kind of confusion that may occur if your wife or girlfriend decides to dump you because you got what you wanted.
The reality of this technology is that it can, and already is being driven by our will to do so, and that stopping the implementation of our will is not likely when the mechanism of action is an unstoppable machine. What we really need is a higher awareness of our will and intentions at this level, to be sure that when we set out to get what we think we want, we aren't disappointed, or damaged by the result.
Imagine living with a headset that tweeted every thought you have all day. Are you ready to live with the consequences of that kind of convenience? We aren't far from it now! Perhaps the only obstacle to that kind of opportunity is privacy and personal liability protection under the law. I believe the technology for these opportunities exist in MRI machines and elsewhere, but have not been harnessed for personal use because we aren't prepared for the consequences of our undisciplined minds.
At the University of Minnesota Biotechnology Research and Development, EEG is used to control a computer display with nothing but a base line recording of intention, and real time monitoring of brain signals that result from intentions. Its not difficult to imagine MRI recognizing conceptual language we use as words and pictures, and printing them to a machine. Brain activity is a common language in nature, and can be interpreted from quite a distance, so harnessing it for practical hands free use is not far off!
Flying a helicopter is a difficult task, but if you program the control of air speed and direction, just the intention to go in one direction or another, and variations of the intensity to do so will take care of the rest!

The human genome and our own particular adaptation is a global resource so personal and common to each of us, that the motivation for progress and positive change literally drives life itself. It remains for us to take advantage of the diversity we each have access to more efficiently. Because it is a physical resource not likely to be nationalized, or exhausted like a natural resource found in the earth, or sea, it cannot be confined by a national boundary or limit of supply. The Uruguay Round of the GATT agreements (circa 1996) allows for the international exchange of Intellectual Property across borders, which must provide room for genetic patents. The more realistic danger includes exclusive access of the entitled and gated communities, but our diversity is actually essential to continue to create opportunities to adapt and evolve.[ii]
There will always be variations of traits that by great blessing, or by great riches, are better than others, but the blessed are not likely to value their gifts anymore than we value ours. We will not all enjoy a trophy wife, or physically beautiful features, or they wouldn't be considered 'special', and if we did, there would be nothing special about them. What biology bestows in one place it takes away from another. We all have our own special contributions, and we need to cherish and appreciate the diversity we have available to work with.
IMID does not intend to become a self-perpetuating machination, but rather a useful tool for society and individuals to evolve and progress to the singularity. By continuing to adapt to our environment in symbiosis with plants and our environment, our genetic adaptations will progress harmoniously with the cultivation of plants in our ever changing environment, conferring the defenses we need to serve our ever changing needs.
Human behavior and reproduction are driven by traits that optimally support life to begin with. To try to duplicate that aspect of genetic engineering would be redundant. It is more relevant to focus on cost-effective corrections to aberrations in individuals and society that result from the threats in our environment corrupting the gene pool to establish itself as a good industry citizen, and to support evolutionary change. However, for short term solutions, falling back upon Bio-Mechanical solutions may actually serve an eclectic population capable of remedies that may extend live or improve the quality of life.
